Afobazol, international non-proprietary name: Fabomotizole
Afobazol composition
Active ingredient: 1 tablet contains 10 mg fabomotizole (in the form of fabomotizole dihydrochloride).
Indications for use
Afobazol is used in adults to relieve anxiety states: generalized anxiety disorders, neurasthenia, adjustment disorders, anxiety states arising in the context of somatic diseases (bronchial asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, ischemic heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias), as well as anxiety states associated with dermatological, oncological, and other diseases. It is also used to alleviate the “withdrawal” syndrome during sleep disorders, neurocirculatory dystonia, premenstrual syndrome, alcohol abstinence syndrome, and when quitting smoking.
Contraindications
Individual intolerance to the product, intolerance to galactose, lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and use in children under 18 years of age are contraindicated.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Taking Afobazol during pregnancy is contraindicated. During breastfeeding, if taking the product is necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
Use in pediatrics
Use in children under 18 years of age is contraindicated.
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate other potentially dangerous machinery
Afobazol does not have a negative effect on driving vehicles and on activities that require high attention and rapid psychomotor responses.
How to take Afobazol
The product is taken orally after meals. The optimal single dose is 10 mg, and the daily dose is 30 mg (3 times 10 mg). The course of treatment usually lasts 2–4 weeks. By doctor’s instruction, the daily dose may be increased up to 60 mg, and the treatment duration may be extended up to 3 months.
