Akineton 2mg tablets contain biperiden hydrochloride, an active ingredient, and are an antiparkinson medication. Each tablet contains 2 mg of biperiden hydrochloride as the active ingredient. This medicine is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, as well as to eliminate extrapyramidal side effects caused by antipsychotic medications.
The medicine is usually taken 1–4 times a day, after meals. The starting dose is 1–2 tablets per day and, if necessary, may be gradually increased by the doctor. The maximum daily dose must not exceed 16 mg (8 tablets).
The tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of water. The duration of treatment is determined depending on the course of the disease and the doctor’s recommendations. Sudden discontinuation of the medicine is not recommended; the dose should be reduced gradually.
Akineton 2mg tablets help improve motor function by reducing the effect of acetylcholine in the central nervous system. The medicine is an effective remedy for reducing tremor, softening muscle stiffness, and increasing mobility. Biperiden hydrochloride has an anticholinergic effect and restores the dopamine–acetylcholine balance in brain tissue. Thanks to this mechanism, the main symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and drug-induced parkinsonism are brought under control.
Caution is required when using the medicine, and certain contraindications must be taken into account. Use is limited in patients with glaucoma, enlarged prostate, and severe liver and kidney failure. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it can be used only under medical supervision. Be careful when driving and working with machinery, as the medicine may affect attention and reaction time.
