Composition and directions for use
Akineton is a medicine based on biperiden hydrochloride. Each tablet contains 2 mg or 4 mg of biperiden hydrochloride as the active ingredient. Among the excipients are corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, copolymer, vinyl acetate, lactose, magnesium stearate, and other substances.
This medicine is used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other extrapyramidal disorders. It is also prescribed to prevent extrapyramidal side effects caused by other medicines.
The dosage is determined individually by the doctor. It is usually taken 1–3 times a day. Special caution is required in elderly patients and children. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Contraindications and warnings
It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to the medicine. Special caution should be shown in cases of glaucoma, prostate adenoma, and severe heart failure. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it may be used only under the supervision of a doctor.
Side effects may include dry mouth, visual disturbances, dizziness, increased heart rate, and digestive problems. It is not recommended to drive or operate machinery while taking the medicine. In elderly patients, memory impairment and confusion may occur.
