Composition and directions for use
Akirab 20mg tablets are a medicine from the group of proton pump inhibitors containing the active substance rabeprazole sodium. Each tablet contains 20mg rabeprazole sodium and excipients such as lactose monohydrate, mannitol, sodium hydroxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, and other pharmaceutical additives. This medicine is used to treat peptic ulcer disease by reducing stomach acid secretion.
The usual daily dose is 1 tablet (20mg) for adults and for adolescents over 12 years of age. The tablet should be swallowed whole in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before meals. The duration of treatment may be 4–8 weeks depending on the nature of the condition.
In hepatic insufficiency and renal insufficiency, no dose adjustment is required. In elderly patients, no special dose adjustment is needed, but they should be kept under regular supervision.
Key features and contraindications
Akirab is a strong proton pump inhibitor based on rabeprazole and effectively blocks stomach acid secretion for up to 24 hours. The medicine is used in the complex treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer, Helicobacter pylori infection, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Its effect begins after 1 hour, and the maximum effect is achieved within 2–4 hours.
The medicine should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to rabeprazole and other proton pump inhibitors. During long-term use, there may be an increased risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, and bone fractures. Side effects include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and, rarely, allergic reactions.
