ALBEKS-SAQA composition
Active ingredient: 1 tablet contains 400 mg albendazole.
Indications for use
Treatment of single or mixed intestinal parasitic diseases. In clinical studies, Albendazole has shown effective action in the treatment of Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworms), Trichuris trichiura (whipworms), Enterobius vermicularis, Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus, Taenia spp (tapeworms) and Strongyloides stercoralis. It has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of Giardia (duodenalis or intestinalis or lamblia) infections in children.
Contraindications
It is not used in patients with hypersensitivity to albendazole or to any of the substances contained in the product. Pregnancy and lactation, lactose deficiency, intolerance to lactose, glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on the use of albendazole during pregnancy. The teratogenic and embryotoxic effects of albendazole in animals are known. The safety of albendazole during pregnancy and lactation has not been established; therefore, it should not be taken during pregnancy, at any stage of pregnancy, or when there is a possibility of becoming pregnant, or for some time after. Albendazole penetrates into breast milk in animals.
It is not known whether albendazole penetrates into human breast milk.
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate other potentially dangerous machinery
Due to dizziness, caution is required when driving vehicles and operating other potentially dangerous machinery.
ALBEKS-SAQA dosage and method of use
For oral use. In children over 2 years of age and in adults, the usual recommended dose is: 400 mg albendazole taken as a single dose. The tablets can be chewed with food. In children aged 1–2 years, the usual dose is a single dose of 200 mg albendazole.
It should not be used in children under 1 year of age. In cases of severe mixed infection associated with strongyloidiasis or teniasis, the single dose may be insufficient, and the product may be prescribed for three consecutive days. Note: if the patient is not treated after three weeks, a second course of treatment may be given. No special procedures such as diet or enemas are required.
Giardiasis (in children over 2 years of age): the daily dose of 400 mg is taken for 5 days. The tablet should be chewed before swallowing. Experience with use in elderly patients aged 65 and over is limited. In elderly patients with signs of liver dysfunction, albendazole should be used with caution.
