ALSET composition

ALSET composition contains 5 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride in 5 ml of syrup

Alset, indications for use

Cetirizine is used in adults and children aged 2 years and older in the following cases: treatment of nasal and eye symptoms of allergic rhinitis, treatment of symptoms of idiopathic urticaria, symptomatic treatment of itching.

Contraindications

• The use of the product is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the active substance of ALSET or to any of the excipients, hydroxyzine, or piperazine derivatives. • Use in patients with severe renal impairment with creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min. • Use in patients with rare hereditary disorders such as fructose intolerance.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

General recommendation: Pregnancy category: “B”. Women who have the potential to give birth may be treated with cetirizine. When cetirizine is used together with oral contraceptives, a decrease in the effectiveness of contraceptives is not expected. Available clinical data on the effects of cetirizine on pregnant women are very limited. In animal studies, no direct or indirect harmful effects of cetirizine on pregnancy, embryo/fetal development, delivery, or postnatal development were found. It should be used only when absolutely necessary for pregnant women and with caution. After using cetirizine, depending on the time of sample collection, it penetrates into breast milk at concentrations of 0.25 to 0.9, and therefore its use is not recommended in women with nursing infants. In animal studies, no effect of cetirizine on fertility was found.

Directions for use and dosage

Children aged 2–6 years: 2.5 mg (half a teaspoon) once daily. In this age group, the daily dose may be increased up to 5 mg. Children aged 6–12 years: 5 mg (one full teaspoon) once daily or 10 mg (two full teaspoons) once daily, or the daily dose may be divided into two doses. Children aged 12 years and older and adults: 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. ALSET syrup is intended for oral use. The syrup can be swallowed as is. In patients with renal impairment, the frequency of use is adjusted according to the patient’s renal function. Dose adjustment is made based on creatinine clearance.
