Composition and directions for use
Amaril M 2/500mg tablets are a combined medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes. Each tablet contains 2 mg glimepiride and 500 mg metformin hydrochloride. These two active ingredients work together to effectively regulate blood sugar levels.
Glimepiride stimulates the beta cells in the pancreas, increasing insulin secretion. Metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and increases the sensitivity of tissues to insulin. Thanks to this dual mechanism of action, blood sugar levels are maintained within an optimal range.
The medicine is usually taken once a day, in the morning before meals or during meals. The starting dose is determined by the doctor based on the patient’s condition and may be increased gradually. The tablets should be swallowed whole, without chewing, with sufficient water.
Key features and contraindications
The main advantage of Amaril M tablets is that they combine two substances with different mechanisms of action into a single tablet. This makes it easier for patients to adhere to treatment and allows for more stable results in blood sugar levels. The medicine significantly reduces HbA1c levels and provides long-term diabetes control. Due to the combined formulation, side effects are minimized and better tolerability is achieved.
The main contraindications of the medicine include type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, renal impairment, and liver diseases. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended. The main side effects may include hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal disorders, and, rarely, allergic reactions. Caution is advised when consuming alcohol, as the risk of lactic acidosis increases.
