How to use and dosage of AMINOCAPROIC ACID

The solution of aminocaproic acid is intended for oral administration or intravenous administration. For adults, the product is prescribed orally at a dose of 5 g (100 ml), and then, until bleeding completely stops, at a dose of 1 g (20 ml) once every 8 hours. If it is necessary to achieve a rapid effect (acute hypofibrinogenemia), the solution of the product should be administered intravenously by drip method at a rate of 50–60 drops per minute for 15–30 minutes, up to a dose of 100 ml (5 g). During the first hour, the product should be administered at a dose of 4–5 g; in case of prolonged bleeding, it should be administered once every hour at a dose of 1 g, provided that it does not exceed 8 hours, until bleeding completely stops.

If bleeding recurs, the 5% solution of the product should be administered again. In children, when there is a moderate increase in fibrinolytic activity, aminocaproic acid should be prescribed at a dose of 0.05 g/kg body weight once per day. Depending on age in children, the doses used are:

- Up to 1 year – single dose – up to 2.5 ml, daily – 15 ml;

- From 2 to 6 years – single dose – 2.5–5 ml, daily – 15–30 ml;

- From 7 to 10 years – single dose – 5–7 ml, daily – 30–45 ml;

- From 11 to 18 years – single dose – 7–14 ml, daily – 45–90 ml. For acute bleeding, the doses used in children are shown below:

- Children up to 1 year – single dose – 5 ml, daily – 30 ml;

- From 2 to 4 years – single dose – 5–7.5 ml, daily – 30–45 ml;

- From 5 to 8 years – single dose – 7.5–10 ml, daily – 45–60 ml;

- From 9 to 10 years – single dose – 15 ml, daily – 90 ml;

- From 11 to 14 years – single dose – 20 ml, daily – 120 ml;

- From 15 to 18 years – single dose – 28 ml, daily – 160 ml. The course of treatment may last from 3 days to 14 days. For the purpose of prevention and treatment of influenza and ARVI, the medicinal product should be used orally and locally (3–4 times per day, 0.5–1.0 ml into the nasal passages). For children, the product should be prescribed orally in the following doses:

- For children under 2 years – 1–2 g (20–40 ml of a 5% solution per day) – 1–2 teaspoons 4 times per day (single dose – 0.02–0.04 g/kg); it can be added to food or drinks;

- For children from 2 to 6 years – 2–4 g (40–80 ml of a 5% solution per day) – 2–4 teaspoons 4 times per day;

- For children over 7 years and adults – 4–5 g (80–100 ml of a 5% solution per day); the daily dose should be divided into 4 administrations. For more precise dosing of the solution, it is advisable to use a sterile syringe without a needle with a volume of 10 ml or 20 ml. At the same time, local use of aminocaproic acid is justified. Every 3–4 hours, it is recommended to place cotton turundas soaked in a 5% solution of aminocaproic acid into the nasal passages for 5–10 minutes, or to instill (drip) 3–5 drops of the solution into each nasal passage during the specified time. If necessary, aminocaproic acid can be used in combination with other antiviral agents and with interferon and its inducers. During an epidemic period, it is advisable to carry out intranasal instillations of aminocaproic acid (3–4 times per day) for prophylaxis—this can additionally be added to the enteral (as during treatment) use of the product during contact with the patient at infection foci. The duration of oral use of aminocaproic acid during influenza and ARVI is 3–7 days. The duration of continued treatment depends on the severity of the disease and is determined individually by the doctor. The doctor may also adjust the dose and prescribe a repeat course of treatment.
