Composition and directions for use
Amoxicillin 500 mg capsules are a medicinal product belonging to the penicillin class, which is part of the broad-spectrum antibiotic group. Each capsule contains 500 mg amoxicillin trihydrate as the active substance. This antibiotic demonstrates high effectiveness in the treatment of various bacterial infections and belongs to the class of beta-lactam antibiotics.
The medicine is usually prescribed for adults at a dose of 1 capsule (500 mg) three times a day. The capsules should be swallowed whole with sufficient water during or after meals. The course of treatment may vary between 5–10 days depending on the duration prescribed by the doctor.
Depending on the type and severity of the infection, the doctor may increase or decrease the dose. With a maximum daily dose of 6 grams, in severe infections, 1000 mg can be prescribed four times a day.
Key features and contraindications
Amoxicillin is used for respiratory system infections, urinary tract infections, infections of the skin and soft tissues, as well as certain bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal system. This antibiotic has a strong bactericidal effect against sensitive bacteria such as streptococcus, staphylococcus, pneumococcus, and others. The medicine works by disrupting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to their destruction.
People who are allergic to amoxicillin or other medicines from the penicillin group should not use this medicine. It is also not recommended in cases where infectious mononucleosis is suspected. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may use it only under medical supervision and only when absolutely necessary. Side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and allergic skin reactions.
