Amoxiclav suspension is a combination antibiotic medicine and contains active substances: amoxicillin (125 mg) and clavulanic acid (31.25 mg). This combination provides a broad-spectrum antibiotic effect that is resistant to beta-lactamase. The medicine is available in a suspension form intended for children of different ages.
Shake the bottle well before use and take the exact dose with the measuring spoon. It is used 2–3 times a day according to the child’s weight. The dosage should be determined based on the doctor’s recommendation and varies by age and weight category.
The treatment course usually lasts 5–10 days and should be continued for the duration prescribed by the doctor even if symptoms disappear. It is recommended to take it during meals or immediately after eating.
Amoxiclav suspension ensures the destruction of bacteria by disrupting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. It is effective in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and infections of the skin and soft tissues. Clavulanic acid increases amoxicillin’s resistance to beta-lactamase and also acts against bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
Contraindications include hypersensitivity to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics, severe liver diseases, and cases of jaundice during previous use of Amoxiclav. Side effects such as gastrointestinal disorders, allergic reactions, and, in rare cases, skin rash may occur. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it should be used only under medical supervision.
