Composition and method of use
The Ampicillin 1 g vial is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the β-lactam antibiotics group. The active ingredient, ampicillin sodium salt, disrupts the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, causing their destruction. The product shows high effectiveness against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
The medicine is administered intravenously or intramuscularly. For elderly patients, the daily dose may be up to 2–12 g and is determined by the doctor depending on the severity of the infection. For children, the dose is calculated based on body weight—100–200 mg/kg per day.
The preparation is dissolved immediately before use with sterile water or a sodium chloride solution. The prepared solution must be used within 24 hours. During infusion, it is recommended to administer the solution slowly.
Key features and contraindications
Ampicillin is widely used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, the urogenital system, the gastrointestinal tract, the skin, and soft tissues. It also provides effective results in severe infectious diseases such as sepsis, meningitis, and endocarditis. The medicine rapidly destroys bacteria and helps ensure the patient’s recovery. Monitoring laboratory parameters during treatment is important.
The product is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillins. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may use it only under medical supervision. In cases of renal and hepatic insufficiency, dose adjustment is required. Side effects may include allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disorders, and dysbiosis.
